DPR Construction

Based in Singapore, Alice brings 5 years of healthcare and VDC experience from working on large acute care hospital projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has first-hand experience implementing BIM to Field and collaborative design review processes. As an efficiency enthusiast, her passions align with DPR’s offerings in the APAC region; applying the newest collaborative techniques, innovative technologies, and construction methods to technically-challenging projects. She was part of the DPR team who built the world class, $1.5B USD, 878,000 sq ft ground-up hospital complex, University of California, San Francisco Medical Center at Mission Bay, where the cost of construction was reduced by 20% through VDC methods. With a craving for challenge and a commitment to advancing the construction industry, Alice draws from her extensive healthcare, technical building background and experience leading the Bay Area Skunkworks team to add value to any project team. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Brown University.

Synopsis: Collaboration enables productivity gain, cost savings, schedule certainty, and a higher quality product; achieving these benefits requires combining collaboration with technologies such as BIM and a discipline of process documentation and execution. It all starts with setting up the project from the beginning at the highest level. In this industry, traditional contracts (design-bid-build and design and build) are barriers for integrated BIM and a high-performing team. Certain clarifications and additions to the current contracts will empower VDC implementation, which will allow for the project team to reap the benefits of BIM and VDC. We will walk you through how to build the foundations for a VDC-enabled project.

Synopsis: Our construction industry has been adopting BIM as an evolutionary tool in the last few years for better coordinated design that will lead to higher quality and productive construction. To achieve the potentials that BIM promises, designers and builders collaborate and share their BIM models. BIM also promises more efficient and accurate quantity take-off, aka 5D BIM which would enhance the Quantity Surveyor’s task and in turn benefit the Developer. How can 5D BIM fits into this BIM Collaboration? What contribution and value add can a QS offer to his client? Mr Loh will share his thoughts on this and how 5D BIM is done in his practice. He will also share on some case studies and lessons to learn.
